“O Christmas Tree”

Over the first weekend in December I thought about all those who will be busy buying and decorating their trees with Christmas cheer. The ones who really don’t give a scoobies and literally lob the box of decorations at it and add five colours of tinsel, those OCD people who colour match everything with anything, the families who practically put every available light onto it as if they are in competition with oxford street and finally the ones who just want their homes to look beautiful and cosy with a hint of OCD (me and my family!).

Now, my family are known for their Christmas trees! By known I mean people just stop and stare outside the window. It all started with my Auntie who is known for the most spectacular tree in her area, her window is more mesmerising than Harrods. Endless days and nights of hard work making her home look like one of those country houses that you would see in the Home beautiful magazine. My mother does come close second to her, but it is only because she collects all of her hand me downs (sorry Mum! But it’s true). In her defence she does have a magical tree that is packed with everything. It will feature beautifully sprayed branches (hand me downs) with wooden toy soldiers (my mum) mixed with a few handmade bows (both of the above) and topped with every other decoration you can imagine (not tinsel, we don’t do tinsel!). Together over the years their trees have created the most magical memories for us kids, and as I was the first to move out it was only fitting that I followed in their footsteps. So as you can imagine over the years my tree decoration box has grown and grown, the size of the tree has gone up and up and the amount of trees have increased in number! What? Everyone ‘needs’ 2 trees, maybe 3!

It was only right for me to base the first festive weekend blog around what my family do best…Christmas trees.

This weekend I collaborate with a wonderful lady who has a shop full of beautiful baubles and many other things, I will let you into my kitchen for the day to show you how to make your very own decorations to fill in those gaps on the tree and save the pennies, and give all my OCD tree lovers some great tips on how to make your tree child friendly and make your little ones feel like they are totally “involved” with the whole set up! After all, we all know that once they have gone to bed we all stand there and re arrange everything to make it look more to our taste. Yes, it’s all about the kids blah blah. Hey listen here, they still get the whole Santa Claus thing from us ok? Let us have something!

Ok so now that is over with, all I can say is enjoy! Of course once all trees are up I will be sure to let you all have a sneaky peep. But for now you will have to trust me on this tree advice malarkey.

“Tis the weekend to put your tree up Tra la la la la la la la la”
