Mummy’s Hollywood Recipe

Would you believe me if I told you my mum trials out different Christmas cake recipes throughout the year? Well, believe it! We have boiled, we have baked, we have one with nuts and one with tamarind, some crumble whilst others don’t have the correct texture but only one is perfect…

The women in my household do have a secret crush on Mr Paul Hollywood (I mean who doesn’t?) it’s the eyes! Or is it the fact that he bakes bloody good cakes and let’s face it we all love a slice of anything next to a hot cup of anything! Well, every year after eating all the samples she finally comes to the conclusion (again) that nothing beats this recipe! So out comes the dried fruit, peel, almonds, orange zest, a dash of brandy and mums home smells like Christmas for the 6th time of the year but this time it’s within the season.

Actually, my family home always smells like cake, if it didn’t I would seriously worry if she was ok. Christmas just reminds me of home and the memories are endless yet, aroma is what makes my heart skip everytime I walk through that door. You know your home when everything smells as good as it tastes and nothing can beat it.

Why is my mummy’s Christmas cake featuring on my must haves? Everyone needs a bit of Christmas cake in their lives and if you’ve never baked one then I suggest you get on the case! Make sure you get that fruit soaking…The longer it soaks the better it tastes (says mum!) and boy does it taste good. We are currently in ‘soaking’ mode and the house has random bowls swimming with brandy everywhere. This is my least favourite part of the process as we have to wait for it all to be ready blah blah. You know I will be making my appearance when all this shizzle becomes a cake mixture and we’re allowed to lick the bowl! (Yes, I’m 33. Don’t lie to yourselves…we all do it!) Now, that’s when I die and go to Hollywood!

Find Mr Blue eye’s recipe on the link below or just come round! As long as you put the kettle on we will supply the cake…we certainly don’t have a shortage…trust me!
